Hanssie’s Favorite Things v1.2

Time for another installment of “Hanssie’s Favorite Things.” Hope you have a fabulous weekend! I’m off to the first wedding of the year! I’ll post a Sneak Peek on Monday.

Here are the things I’m obsessed with this week:

1. Waterlogged App

I’ve been thinking about water a lot lately, with the Thirst Relief Mentor Auction and people posting their “get healthy” New Year’s Resolutions (by the way, who is still doing theirs?  –Kudos to you!). First of all, let me just thank all of you who supported the auction, together over $40,000 was raised to bring clean water to those in need. Woo-Hoo! You’re awesome.

Okay, so back to my thoughts on water. I don’t drink enough of it. The common belief is 8 glasses a day, but most articles I’ve read on the Internet say you are supposed to drink more. Doesn’t matter because I was putting back probably around 20oza day, more when I worked out, less when I didn’t. YIKES. Since there’s an app for everything, I set out on a search for a water log and I found “Waterlogged”. You put in your daily goal, take pictures of your favorite water bottle (and add in the volume  for a quick way to log intake), and start drinking. You can set up alerts throughout the day to remind you to drink, too. It’s not easy, I’ve not hit my goal very often and I have to pee a lot, but I feel better knowing I am doing one more thing that I should to be healthy:)The app is free and there is a also paid version.

2. Water Bobble

Again, more water. I was explaining to my six year old what Thirst Relief was and how some people are less fortunate than us and have no access to clean water. She looks at me and says, “Why don’t we send them that thing in the kitchen that cleans our water (we have a PUR water filter on the faucet) and some water bottles.” Of course, I tweeted this and my friend mentioned a water bottle with a built in filter. I looked it up and saw that they had pink. I was sold. I found mine at Target (and they are on sale this week!) Bringing it home, we did a water taste test –tap vs. PUR vs fridge water vs Water Bobble. Winner was the Bobble.  It tastes about the same as the PUR filtered water, but edged out the competition by being cute and pink. Retails for: $9.99 (on sale at Target right now for $9.00)

3. Moleskine Notebooks

Call it awesome branding or whatever, but owning a Moleskine is just different than owning a regular plain old journal. It’s made in Italy, has an elastic band and a cult following…other than than that I can’t explain to you the feel of this notebook over any other. It just feels different. I’ve used a few in the last 10 years and they make me happy. I have an app on my phone (see, there IS an app for everything) for my To-Do list and the icon and pages look like my Moleskine notebook. I’ve found an iPad cover (for the day when I get my long awaited iPad) that looks like a notebook –I’m a bit obsessed.

I pulled my beloved journal off of the bookshelf the other day, blew off the dust and saw that I wrote in it one time last year and only a handful the year before. So, I vowed to finish it out this year, so I can get another one, hee hee:)Oh and people have done all sorts of amazing things in their journals –the creativity and artistic ability blow me away. I googled Moleskine and clicked on images and got THESEStarting prices for the pocket notebook $10.95

4. P!nk

No, not the color, although pink is one of my favorite things, but P!ink the musician. I remember liking  her way back in college, and now with the release of her Greatest Hits…So Far album, I’m hooked again on her sassy, don’t care what you think attitude. And besides, who can resist lyrics like, “So raise your glass if you are wrong, in all the right ways…” Brilliant –I’m raising my glass and I don’t even drink, lol!

Why so serious?
So raise your glass if you are wrong, In all the right ways,
All my underdogs, We will never be never be anything but loud
And nitty gritty dirty little freaks
Won’t you come on and come on and raise your glass,

Just come on and come on and raise your glass
Won’t you come on and come on and raise your glass,
Just come on and come on and raise your glass!

5. Tattoos

I was a good girl. Straight A’s, church going, wanting to please my parents (I still am some of those things, lol), never rebellious, but as soon as I turned 18, went and got a tattoo. Then I felt really guilty and told my mom that night. About a year after that, my dad looks over and asked me if that thing on my leg was a tattoo. I said yes. He shook his head.

Well, now I want another. Finally convinced the hubby (he hates them) and now I have to convince my dad because I want him to write in Chinese calligraphy my Chinese name. I think I’m wearing him down, but if not, do you have any ideas what I should get on my wrist?

On the Auction Block (Thirst Relief)

Clean water. It’s something we take for granted everyday.

I don’t have to walk any further than my sink to fill my water bottle up and drink.

I take long hot showers with no thought other than why my fingers get wrinkly.

My daughter plays in the bathtub and  pours “drinks” from cup to cup, playing happily.

And I gripe. I gripe about stupid random things. Things that don’t always matter just because I am inconvenienced or made uncomfortable in some way. And I never think about the 2.5 million people that die each year from drinking contaminated water –90% UNDER five years old or the near one billion people that don’t have access to clean drinking water. That is so not okay.

To give a child clean water for life it costs $5…FIVE DOLLARS. That is one Starbucks Latte, two Miguels Burritos, one medium Pinkberry. I know the economy sucks. I feel it too. It’s hard to stretch that paycheck for all the bills. But seriously, it’s time to step out of our comfy little world for a second and think about someone who doesn’t have the basic necessities to live.

Last year, I was overwhelmed with support from people who bid on me for the annual Thirst Relief Mentor Auction. My auction alone raised enough to impact almost 120 lives. That is so awesome. You guys and gals are INCREDIBLE.

This year, I am back on the auction block. Starting Monday, January 10th-12th, you can bid on me or any number of photographers for an one-on-one mentor session. My auction comes with a 90 minute mentor session with me (we can talk about whatever you want -photography, shopping, branding, marketing, homeschooling, fashion, etc), lunch, a trip to Pinkberry, a lifetime pass to all future SoCal Photog Shootout events and a one year SmugMug Pro account.

Last year, I was concerned I wasn’t going to get any bids. This year, if my involvement impacts ONE life, it’ll be worth it to me.

Many have said they wished they had the money to bid on the auction. And I understand  not everyone can afford to bid hundreds of dollars right now. I challenge those people to find five dollars in their seat cushions and donate it. (You can donate at any time by clicking HERE). Skip the Starbucks for a few days. I’m going to give up my beloved Pinkberry this month.
