I had heard about him for two years from Matt before I actually met him. When Matt talked about light, which is often, the phrase usually started with , “When I was in Spain with Scott Robert…”
I met Scott earlier this year and found him to be one of the most gracious people in this industry. Always willing to help, answer a question, or provoke you to dig deeper, Scott Robert is a natural educator. He offered his help with SoCal PhotogShootout and I knew I wanted him to come speak for the Smug User Group–and so did many people apparently. RSVP’s started flooding in as soon as the event was scheduled on the Meet-Up and Facebook groups.
About 125 people trekked up to the OC SmugMug User Group’s new home at the Outdoor Education Center at Irvine Ranch. Early birds were in for a treat as Matthew Saville held an impromptu, mini PhotogShootout with a model that *happened* to be in attendance. As if the scenic foothills of East Orange County did not provide enough of a backdrop, the dramatic skies, heavy with the threat of an impending storm provided a rainbow for our photographing pleasure.
Scott Robert did not disappoint with his 2 hour talk and demonstration on fashion lighting with flash. Scott is hosting another workshop in China later this month (I WANT TO GO!) and one closer to home in San Juan Capistrano in November (I GET TO GO!). First photo from my iPhone. All the rest of the photographs below are courtesy of Matthew Saville. (I know, I know, he’s become my personal photographer apparently…)
In other news, since my posts are all Matt-centric lately, he will be speaking at the Riverside SmugMug User group, details HERE.
