Here’s what we’ve got planned:

* the BLACK AND WHITE PROJECT by Kevin Calumpit

Kevin, a San Diego based photographer has started a personal project called the B&W project. To help him with his goal we’ve invited him to the party and everyone is encouraged to get their photo taken. more info here (http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-BW-Project-by-Kevin-Calumpit/139868016079749?sk=wall)

Photograph 300+ people, in less a year and turn it into a book…..help me achieve my goal and get in front of the camera.
———–
The B&W Project started with my insanity for light, lighting and people. This journey of photographing a ton of people started with the simple fact of me wanting to see how many people I could photograph, friends of friends of friends. There’s no cure I currently know right now, only to shoot until I’m back to “normal”. When its all over I plan on creating a book of these images for people to truly see we are all the same in B&W.

When I started my photography business, it was basically with a “swim or die” mentality. I’m not really a sit back and read instruction manuals type of gal. When I want to do something, I roll up the sleeves of whatever fashionable outfit I have on and get my hands dirty. (In the education circles, I’m a Kinesthetic learner –if you want to be all proper about such things).

There are other things, though, that I have accepted I am never going to be good at or even want to attempt (or it just simply bores me to death so I ignore it or delegate).

Among these things would be taxes and contracts. Call me a flighty artist or dumb but math is a foreign language to me and I can feel my eyes glaze over at just the mention of numbers, contract wording, legal paperwork and anything else pertaining to the work that people usually with abbreviations after their names do for work.

Unfortunately, as a business owner, these things are a necessity to run a successful, legal business. Sigh. Which is why I am bringing my “Business Manager,” aka Tim, the husband, to the meeting to soak up all the business-y goodness. After all, I can’t get my fashionable outfit too dirty, can I?

If you own a photography business or are thinking of starting one, this month’s OC Smug is for you!

The Speakers:

Faizan Hanif — attorney at law REX LAW LLP

Do you have contracts for your business? Have you considered all the basics like liability coverage and package agreements? What about the non-basics, the things that are particular to you, like privacy clauses?

Come join us as Faizan gives us some ideas on the fundamental must-haves for a basic contract.
