Labels. No matter how much we want to shy away from them, it’s a way of life. Collectively, they help us define who we are and separately, they each contain a snippet of a facet of our lives and personalities.

When I first started my photography business, my logo was hanssie trainor: photography. Even back then I knew I could not be contained under one label, hence the colon. (The colon is used before a list or an explanation that is preceded by a clause that can stand by itself) and I knew that photography was just one thing that defined who I was. And now after 3+ years in the business, I’ve evolved and come full circle, back to using the colon to help define who I am – a multi faceted, ever changing person, that wears many hats and has many life experiences.

This blog has always been about my life but with a focus on my photography, but now, there will be a shift to focus more on my journey in the "IN BETWEEN" from my former life as a wife and mother to life as a single gal and single mom living life passionately under my own terms with photography thrown in as well. I'm just a girl trying to figure things out and deal with baggage and confusion in the dating world. I'm putting it all out there --the good, the bad and the ugly. I hope you’ll join me for the ride.

I'm kissing a lot of frogs..and blogging about it.

(P.S. Yes, I am still commissioning for fashion/editorial work and for weddings/ portraits)

Shannon and Mike

Aboard the Carnival Cruise ship, Elation, our friends, Mike and Shannon got married today. I have never been to a wedding on a ship before and would’ve loved to set sail with them afterwards (if not for P2…work…grr…). The funniest part was that we had to be off the boat before it set sail at 4pm. Mac and I literally was shoving the dessert in our mouths at last call! Definitely the way to do a wedding…not too long, not too serious, but beautiful all the same. I also have never taken pictures with my little XTI at a wedding before. I tried not to get in the photographer’s way and I had serious lighting issues. I only had a handful of shots that I liked (taking pictures in a really short shirt and platforms does not help!), so here they are. Much love and congratulations, Mike and Shannon!

This is the only shot of the three of us, sad, huh?

Birthday "Experiences"

Ribbon and wrapping paper flying all through the air…piles of plastic, noisy toys forgotten in minutes…jealousy, selfishness, tears and fighting kids…ahh, birthdays. Cynical view, I know, but for awhile now I have worked on going “beyond” the typical , consumer driven, junk accumulating birthday present. Now, with some effort and creativity, Mackenzie and I collaborate in discussing what we would rather do to celebrate a birthday. (She doesn’t have the greatest ideas yet, but they’ll come). For her friend Elizabeth’s seventh birthday, we decided to have a tea party at Tea and Teacups. What fun and hopefully, the memories of this afternoon will last a wee bit longer than the newest Barbie from Wal-mart. Well, the pictures will last at least! Below are my favorites. (Still working on the flash and I realize now that the ISO was set too high)
