Labels. No matter how much we want to shy away from them, it’s a way of life. Collectively, they help us define who we are and separately, they each contain a snippet of a facet of our lives and personalities.

When I first started my photography business, my logo was hanssie trainor: photography. Even back then I knew I could not be contained under one label, hence the colon. (The colon is used before a list or an explanation that is preceded by a clause that can stand by itself) and I knew that photography was just one thing that defined who I was. And now after 3+ years in the business, I’ve evolved and come full circle, back to using the colon to help define who I am – a multi faceted, ever changing person, that wears many hats and has many life experiences.

This blog has always been about my life but with a focus on my photography, but now, there will be a shift to focus more on my journey in the "IN BETWEEN" from my former life as a wife and mother to life as a single gal and single mom living life passionately under my own terms with photography thrown in as well. I'm just a girl trying to figure things out and deal with baggage and confusion in the dating world. I'm putting it all out there --the good, the bad and the ugly. I hope you’ll join me for the ride.

I'm kissing a lot of frogs..and blogging about it.

(P.S. Yes, I am still commissioning for fashion/editorial work and for weddings/ portraits)

Baptism: JJ and Josh

People started to file in this morning for the 9:00 service, chatting, smiling, preparing for worship. JJ is sitting all alone waiting, contemplating, oblivious to the noise around him. “Are you nervous?” I ask him, knowing that in a few minutes, he will be sharing a piece of himself with 400-500 people. “No,” he replied, “I’m ready.”

And as he shares his testimony, I think of how he allowed the Lord to use him in Africa and how he continues daily to love and serve the Lord in his school and with his friends. As he spoke about the Lord changing his life, his voice steady with a bit of excitement and anticipation, I know that he IS ready.

I have never really had a chance to speak to Josh, but I know that he always has a smile on his face. His testimony was simple. He loves God and is ready to serve Him.

Mao: Our Cat-Dog

Yes, seriously. I am blogging about my cat. I have become THAT person.

First of all, I am allergic to cats…runny nose, itchy eyes, hives and sneezes…so I never really liked cats. When we moved, this skinny little stray kept coming around to talk to us and one thing led to another and now we have a cat. She had a traumatic experience where she lost her babies, got sick and depressed and now she thinks she’s a house cat. AND she is pregnant again, yes, before we could get her to her spay appointment…grr…

Anyway, Mao (which is Chinese for “cat,” creative, aren’t we?) is more like a dog. She wants to be cuddled, rocked to sleep, and scratches at the door to get in and out. She also is potty trained, drinks from the pool, loves, LOVES sugary snacks and wants to be around people. She sleeps at our doors and guard them for us and “talks” a mile a minute – takes after the Trainor side of the family.

And she will soon be a Mama…anyone want kittens?
