Labels. No matter how much we want to shy away from them, it’s a way of life. Collectively, they help us define who we are and separately, they each contain a snippet of a facet of our lives and personalities.

When I first started my photography business, my logo was hanssie trainor: photography. Even back then I knew I could not be contained under one label, hence the colon. (The colon is used before a list or an explanation that is preceded by a clause that can stand by itself) and I knew that photography was just one thing that defined who I was. And now after 3+ years in the business, I’ve evolved and come full circle, back to using the colon to help define who I am – a multi faceted, ever changing person, that wears many hats and has many life experiences.

This blog has always been about my life but with a focus on my photography, but now, there will be a shift to focus more on my journey in the "IN BETWEEN" from my former life as a wife and mother to life as a single gal and single mom living life passionately under my own terms with photography thrown in as well. I'm just a girl trying to figure things out and deal with baggage and confusion in the dating world. I'm putting it all out there --the good, the bad and the ugly. I hope you’ll join me for the ride.

I'm kissing a lot of frogs..and blogging about it.

(P.S. Yes, I am still commissioning for fashion/editorial work and for weddings/ portraits)

Electric Blue Eyeliner

I’m 1000% positive that my eyes did not look like this.

My first bout with makeup was with awful blue eyeliner my sophmore year in high school.Yeah, I was a late bloomer. I’d watched my mom put on her makeup everyday and decided that it was time I tried it. Hoping to give  my little squinty eyes some sort of much needed pop, I went to the grocery store across the street from my parents’ restaurant and bought a Wet and Wild palette of electric blue eyeshadow –which, ironically, is trendy right now. Go figure. I was waaayyyy before my time, obvi.

It was probably disastrous, but my selective memory has chosen to forget that moment, but I do remember that I read in Teen Magazine that the real way to make eyes look bigger is with eyeliner. So, off I went to purchase some electric blue eyeliner. (Not sure what my obsession with electric blue was, honestly).

Somewhere along the way, I ditched the blue and somehow figured out how to apply makeup in a way so that I don’t look like I missed Halloween, but even today I still am fairly unsure about makeup application.

Last night I decided that at 36 years old, it was about time I learned how to put makeup on. Luckily, my roommate is a makeup artist so I asked her a few questions and thankfully there are lots of YouTube videos.  Also, I’m going to make an appointment at Sephora for a consult and to put my credit card to good use. I may even end up buying some electric blue eyeliner. I hear it’s popular these days.

The Barnes Family 2013

This is probably by far the easiest portrait session to shoot this year. Not only are the Barnes family full of cuteness and photogenic goodness, but they all smile on cue and the light was perfect. I pretty much got the “Christmas Card shot” in the first few frames. Speaking of Christmas cards…ugh. I better get on my own family photos ASAP.
