Those that follow me on Facebook or Twitter probably know that in a few weeks I will be going to Africa for a week to document a team of educators as we share with teachers from some schools in Addis Abba some teaching techniques and computer stuff. I have attached my sponsor letter in case any of you fabulous blog readers want to know how to pray for us and/or help with our trip expenses.
I was never one to go on adventures as a child. I preferred to sit in my room with a book from the library and escape in someone else’s adventure while comfortably residing on my bed. For those of you that know me, I enjoy the coziness of the familiar surroundings of my everyday life – my couch, my bed, my pillow, chocolate, pizza and my iPhone.
Well, God likes to shake things up a bit. I have been given the opportunity to travel with a team of educators from my church in Corona, CA to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia this fall. Our church, Northpoint Evangelical Free Church, has partnered with the Akaki Church in Addis within the Ethiopian denomination Kale Hewit (Word of Life). This church supports two schools. One is a K-9 school, and the other is a seminary. The K-9 Akaki School has 30 teachers and 750 students, and hopes to become a K-12 school as God provides resources. It is an alternative to the poorer schools in Addis.
Through the seminary, Pastor Josef, of the Akaki Church, hopes to build up pastors to reach the unreached of the Central zone of Ethiopia. These schools have teachers and curriculum, but those teachers are hungry for teaching methods. Our team will be leading afternoon in-service seminars at both schools. These seminars will include teaching methods and teaching English (in Ethiopia all students must read/write in English in 7th grade and beyond. And of course I will be documenting the entire trip and team with my camera.
For a trip like this there are many needs. I would appreciate your prayers. First, I have to get a series of “Pokey’s” as Mackenzie calls them for Yellow Fever, Hepatitis, Polio, Typhoid, and other random diseases I might contract. I’m not that good with pain.
Also, as you probably know I work full time as an Education Specialist with River Springs Charter School, run a part time photography business, am homeschooling and singing with the Bonner Singers. There are many details that goes in planning for a trip like this and this is quite a busy season in my life. Please pray for balance and for my family as I will be away from them for the week.
And last, please pray that our team is able to raise sufficient support for our trip. This economy has been difficult on us and many people we know. We are thankful that God is larger than economies and appreciate your prayer for our financial needs. I am including a statement from our church below should you desire to contribute financially to our trip.
We leave Los Angeles on October 30, and will return on November 6. The flights there and back are about 29 hours each way. Anyone have a Kindle I can borrow?
You’ll be able to follow my trip (I’m pretty sure) via twitter (www.twitter.com/hanssie), Facebook (www.facebook.com/Hanssie) or my blog (www.hanssietrainorphotography.com), before during and after the trip.
