the events: san diego GTG (get together) ~ ramona, ca

I arrived kinda grumpy. Even though I had my fabulous cowgirl boots on, I was still fighting off feelings of annoyance at an undefined affliction. Giving myself a pep talk and reminding myself that I had a group to lead, I got out of the car and stepped onto the beautiful Split Rock Ranch in Ramona.

The event was hosted by Yvonne LeBrun and Stephen Knuth, the newest members of the PhotogShootout family. Once there, I was paired with Matthew Saville to lead a small group of photogs for the day. Still unable to shake the melancholy, I sat back and let Matt take the show and I was able to get some R & R and just shoot to my heart’s content. Thanks Matt and the group for letting me be my cantankerous self.

On another note, the SoCal PhotogShootout group is planning their December event. Tickets sold out in 6 minutes. I’m still in shock. We’ll be introducing some new friends and shooting around the theme “The Great Gatsby.” Special guest, Becker will be stopping by. You can no longer get tickets for this event…unless, you are one of my FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS. One lucky commenter will receive a much coveted, SOLD OUT ticket to the December 13th event. Just comment below and let me know what themes you want to see for future shootouts. Winner will be picked randomly on Monday at 11:00pm.

WINNER: I numbered each commenter and picked the number out of a hat. The winner is John L! Congrats! Thanks for reading my blog:)

Models: Michael Hendrickson, Anna Good, Jk DeLapp, Amanda Yeagar Rojas and Megan Bibbo

I hope I can win a free ticket, because this upcoming shoot out is so my style and I would love to be a part of it. So my idea for the next shoot out is a pregnancy theme. Pregnancy photography is a huge market and many people don’t know how to pose or make a woman who is three times her normal size around the belly, feel beautiful. Additionally, different locations or backgrounds (urban vs. woodsy), clothing choices (fashionista mama or jcrew girl) and different styles (full body sexy mama or clothed alongside the daddy) would be awesome! A shoot out with this theme could be a huge learning step for many photographers who are trying to broaden their portfolios. Plus, as lifestyle photographers, we should try to photograph our clients through all their stages of life…engagement, wedding, prego, baby and family portraits. Thanks for considering my idea. :)

Hi Hanssie!! Funny… I was thinking of different shootout themes on the long drive to San Francisco over the weekend… here are a few:

– Shootout where the models are Photographers… All the famous OC photogs look great on the other side of the camera as well… Mike Colon, [b]ecker, Dane Sanders, Jasmine Star, Joelle Leder… I think it would be fun to put the people newbies like me look up to on the other side of the camera. The pics could be used for their personal sites.

– A ‘Mad Men’ themed shoot out.

– A ‘Lost’ themed shoot out.

– High fashion, catwalk-type shoot out.

… just a few ideas…

ooo missed the last shootout and dying to go to the next one. Just trying to save a little cash over the holidays so I couldn’t attend this upcoming one. Hopefully, I can win a ticket instead. If not, it’s all good. There are plenty of other shootouts coming I’m sure. =) You guys rock and thanks so much for all these opportunities!!

Love the one silhouetted with the girl in the barn! I’m SO bummed I didn’t get a ticket. Freaking SE Asia shouldn’t be 15 hours ahead of time. Themes I’d love to see: Cultural theme (getting lots of different cultures in the mix with lots of colors), A 70’s rollerskating type thing, Or an 80s punk theme! :) I’m sure no one really appreciates the 80s like I do! :)

Jonathan - November 30, 2009 - 12:45 pm

I want to see a Mad Men themed shoot.[Who doesn't like Don Draper!]

Jennifer Owens - November 30, 2009 - 12:41 pm

I would like to see something in snow…I would also enjoy a photoshoot with kids and/or babies. I love the whole chic glamorous model thing we’ve had going on… how about a shoot involving motion? or a glam rockclimbing theme? or even underwater?

Mary Hurlbut - November 30, 2009 - 12:37 pm

My shoot-out idea:
I’ll host one this summer at the Sawdust Art Festival
I could line up clothing and jewelry for the models.
photographers would get practice shooting products on models
Sawdust artists could get some nice images of their work
and models for their portfolios

Mary Hurlbut - November 30, 2009 - 12:31 pm

These look SO much better then on Facebook!

Amanda Murphy - November 30, 2009 - 8:43 am

Moulin-Rouge Theme! :) )

Joan - November 29, 2009 - 8:32 pm

Hanssie! I see that I’m a few posts late, but I love the way your new logo looks on the pictures. So excited we’ll be branded with the H too!

Tira J - November 29, 2009 - 4:33 pm

My favorite image is the one with the kitty! So cool that the event sold out in 6 min. Wish I could come. You guys are going to learn so much from [b]ecker!!!

Liz - November 29, 2009 - 4:15 pm

Um, HELLO! Who is the hot new male model, and is he single?

Michelle O - November 29, 2009 - 2:43 pm

Okay…thought of one more…very modern retro couple shot around the Disney Musical Concert Hall in L.A. Amazing architecture and lines and a difficult shooting ground that would give everyone a chance to really challenge their skills.

Michelle O - November 29, 2009 - 2:39 pm

OMGoodness…I’m begging for that extra ticket. I tried registering after the 7 minute sell-out :( I would love to see for a future shootout: classic couple…think 40’s…around a vintage plane.
